Tony Walsh – Managing Director
Tony’s experience is very extensive in the industry. Joining Bass in 1988 as a graduate trainee, he enjoyed roles in Free Trade Sales, Marketing and Retail Operations.
In 1996, he joined Marstons plc where, as Acquisitions Director he expanded the estate. In addition he also developed the Pitcher and Piano brand, taking the estate from 12 – 33 sites.
Tony set up the Rosewood Pub Company Ltd (Newport’s predecessor) in October 2000.
Simon Wheeler – Finance Director
Simon’s pedigree in the finance world is also extensive. A graduate of Warwick University, Simon has worked for Arthur Andersen, Trebor Bassett and Cadbury Schweppes.
On behalf of the group, Simon has successfully negotiated many banking deals with the high street banks including HSBC, Barclays, Allied Irish Bank and Bank of Scotland.
Mike Schmid – Property Director
Newport’s most experienced manager, Mike’s career has predominantly been with Whitbread where he worked on the managed house side of the business up until the early 90’s. Following this period Mike joined Everards brewery, based in Leicestershire. Here Mike was the head operator of the managed and tenanted estate business reporting directly to the Everards family. Mike joined Rosewood (Newport’s predecessor) in November 2001.
Liz Andrews – Accounts Manager, Leighton Buzzard
Liz is a crucial part of the business and is the hub of accounting and administration within the company.
A key point of contact for all our business partners, her background prior to joining Newport was in banking, predominantly with NatWest.
Julia Hanley-Walsh – Office Manager, Shifnal
Julia’s role is also very important; as well as being Tony’s wife, she supports Mike and Tony ensuring that all their administration is in order. She originally trained in hotel catering and management and has worked as an Air Stewardess (Britannia Airways), in sales and marketing for Guy Salmon Car Rentals (bought out by Alamo) and Bass plc where she was Marketing Manager for the managed catering estate and for Vintage Inns.
Adam Czyzewski – Openings Manager
Adams background is with a number of pub operators, including Allied Breweries where he enjoyed roles in pub management. His knowledge of day to day pub operations is second to none and his role is to help licensees in opening their newly refurbished Newport sites.
From cellar to kitchen, nothing worries Adam.
Malcolm Hughes – Promotions Manager
Malcolm is an absolute legend! As a stock controller at Bass, he and Tony ran community, food, young persons venue pubs in Wolverhampton, Shrewsbury and Cannock.
He has an excellent personal style and his role is to assist licensees with all of their wet/dry promotional needs.
Steve Foster – Catering Development Consultant
As well as running a very successful catering business, Steve helps Newport with menu development and dish costings. In addition, he trains kitchen staff in food preparation and presentation.
Steve’s background was with Everards Managed house division where he was Catering Operations Manager for the estate.
Sandi Glover – Accounts Receivable
Sandi has been with the company on a part-time basis since June 2005 and is responsible for all aspects of the invoicing cycle of the Newport Pub Company. Before breaking to raise a family, Sandi previously held management roles within BT and also trained as a nurse! A keen golfer and gardener, Sandi has been a key team member during the current growth phase of the business.
